The Porkka Playboys: Bohemian Rhapsody

If you want to spend the day surfing Youtube one search can easily fill your afternoon: Bohemian Rhapsody. There's so many different versions of this classic rock icon! You'll find everything from bands doing covers to people doing instrumental versions. Shoot. Even the Muppets have their own version!

While the Porkka Playboys is not yet a household name, this band of street musicians from Finlind is about ready to make their mark on the internet in a very BIG way with this very clever, unique rendition of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody."

This video has a really great concept to it: Take a beat up, rusty old Volkswagen Polo & go out into the middle of nowhere. Then make a video of your band playing an entire song without ever leaving the car!

Not only does this video showcase the band's great vocal talent & musicianship, but it showcases their creativity & sense of humor. What they offer up is a unique, one-of-a-kind concept that is musically solid, extremely entertaining, and fun to watch.

This music video will most certainly go viral, & it will be very interesting to see how the Porkka Playboys follow this one up!

Charlie Sheen - Losing!

Without a doubt the hottest thing right now, virally speaking, is Charlie Sheen. He seems to be everywhere! From Twitter to Youtube & all points in between, it's impossible right now to avoid Charlie Sheen.

How bad is it? Last week as I was flipping through the late night talk shows I watched as one famous late night talk show host did nothing his whole, entire monologue but make Charlie Sheen jokes.

I have to admit, as a comedian, the temptation to jump on this Charlie Sheen bandwagon was almost overwhelming! Actually, I gave into it a little bit myself when I made up a game called, "Which Charlie Said It?" On my Twitter I would post a quote & asked people to respond which Charlie said it: Charlie Sheen or Charles Manson.

Then something crazy happened to me. As I was preparing my next Charlie Sheen quote I had a stunning revelation: God's not entertained with any of this. Charlie Sheen is LOSING from God's perspective & it's not funny.

Not everyone will agree with me - or God for that matter. Some seem to think that all of this is some elaborate hoax, & that Charlie Sheen isn't as whacked out as we think. All the free publicity he's getting from the media, paid television interviews, and as some even report that he's even getting paid to tweet on Twitter.

I only hope that all of that is true, but I'm just not seeing the "brilliance" in all of this. He WAS the highest paid actor in the history of television. Now his television career has gone down the toilet, along with his movie career. How's Charlie going to bounce back from this? What acting/directing/producing professional is going to seriously want to work with him after this media frenzy dies down? Where can Charlie possibly go from here?

The answer is: Nowhere. He's losing. The sad thing is we spend hours in front of our laptops, PC's, tablets, smartphones, & televisions just to entertain ourselves with all things "Sheen" as this man's life crashes & burns.

It's really not funny, America. We have to stop being losers.

Jack Vale: One of Viral's Best!

I wanted to start off my first "All Things Viral" blog talking about one of my favorites: Jack Vale.

I've been following Jack Vale for about 3 months now. This guy is HILARIOUS!! Many nights I have stayed up laughing myself silly at Jack's videos, while my wife would lay in bed wondering when I was going to get off the PC.

Jack Vale rose to fame through his "Pooter" videos, where he takes a hand held device that he has hidden, squeezes it to make a fart sound. The results will make you bust a gut as he does this very blatantly right in front of people.

For an example of Jack's work, watch this video:

The thing I like about Jack's videos is that outside of the "pooting" his comedy is relatively clean, which is refreshing because I can share his stuff with everyone from my son to my pastor. In this day & age finding good, clean comedy is getting harder & harder, & I applaud Jack for keeping things family friendly.

One thing that Jack has reminded me is that comedy is not just for the stage, but it's all around us. As a comedian this has been inspiring to me. It's shown me that my "act" is not just limited to performing with a microphone on stage, but the stage can be & is everywhere I go.

Creatively, this stretches me. My greatest challenge isn't coming up with content, but getting my content to my audience & getting a response, much the same way when I tell a joke on stage & people laugh. I'm not there to hear my audience laugh when they see my content online. I have to find a way to engage them to find out if they thought it was funny, and then I respond with content that I know that they'll love.

Jack's mastered this, & he continues to deliver video after video after video. He's done more than just made a living "farting" in public. He's one of the many viral leaders redefining what the word "comedian" actually means.
